With a number of members unable to turn out for some Monday Demonstration evenings, it seemed like a good idea to maintain an archive of the details, videos and photos taken at earlier events. It will be a bit like Catch Up TV!
It was great to welcome back Chris Fisher (The Blind Woodturner), his wife Nicola and of course Bamber. To hear Chris's story of how became blind and then took up woodturning was inspirational, but to be informed about his recent activities was completely mind blowing. He treated us to an outstanding demonstration of his incredible skill in wood artistry.
Thank you Chris for coming. We all went home feeling that we'd experienced something amazing.
Check out the photos and vids below that were taken during the evening.

Chris gave us a sensational demonstration. He showed us how to use ebonising solutions and liquid latex to enhance and bring out the beauty of an otherwise uninspiring piece of wood.
We all benefited from Chris relating some of his determination and enthusiasm for woodturning after he had actually gone blind! This shows in the quality of his work and his recent approbation to being made an RPT.
In his own words, 'Just keep on turning!'

Monday 13th September 2021 - Emma Cook (The Tiny Turner)
We were delighted to welcome back Emma Cook for another of her inspirational demonstrations. During lockdown, Emma made use of YouTube to broadcast her demonstrations from her own workshop using the Internet.
For this demonstration, Emma showed us to turn a delightful lidded box which she then decorated using pyrography techniques. With no less than 9 new members coming along, it was great for them to see some expert turning techniques, as well as moving on to how to enhance a work using pyrographic skills. All who were there enjoyed another outstanding demonstration. Thank you, Emma.
Shown below are some photos taken during the evening. Thanks to Martin Stear for stepping into the shoes of David Bailey with some great photos.
Monday 11th October 2021 - Peter Osborn
It was great to welcome Pete back after such a long period of time, but it was well worth the wait! He treated us to an inspiring demonstration of his superb skills and artistry. Pete had brought along some examples of his beautifully crafted bowls and dishes.
An example of his amazing work that Pete demonstrated for us is shown below. It certainly inspired many of us to have a go ourselves.
We've booked Pete again for February next year. Whatever he'll be doing then will be well worth the wait!
Shown below are some of the photos taken during Pete's demonstration.
It was a great evening wasn't it? After two years since the last AGM, the Steak Pie tasted so much better! It is nice to have the opportunity to put down our gouges and let our hair down a bit. Hopefully, everybody enjoyed themselves and got home safely.

Wasn't it great to see so many of our new members and welcome them into the Club?
Monday 13th December 2021 - Ian cARESS
We were very pleased to welcome back Ian Caress who stepped in at the last minute. Unfortunately, as Margaret Garrard was unable to come along as her husband was unwell. The Club would like to send their best wishes to Margaret and her husband for a speedy recovery.
With so many new members, and some being new to woodturning, it was great to see Ian put in a masterful demonstration of skill and great techniques with two easy projects. Firstly, Ian turned a wig stand that would benefit anybody who loses their hair. This involved some classic spindle turning techniques. He then demonstrated a very novel way of turning a brilliant method of making a lidded box which would allow an easy method of matching up the grain. For those of us who are used to turning boxes, it provided a great new technique.
It was a great evening for both new and experienced woodturners. Check out the photos and videos taken during the evening.
With apologies for the judder halfway through - I sneezed!
We are delighted to welcome back our good friend Rick Dobney.
some of our members may well remember that rick treated us to a display of expert off centre turning last time. rick always provides a demonstration that enthrals both experienced tuners and those new to the craft.
This time rick delighted us with a very novel way of producing a hollow form in two halves. this would be project that will appeal to Both new and experienced turners.
check out the photos and videos taken during the evening.
Many members know Martin as 'the man who supply us with some great wood', but perhaps there are fewer who realise that he is also an expert production turner. For the first time in many years we were fortunate to have him come and give us a demonstration of his skills and techniques. we were privileged to a rare opportunity to experience a master craftsman a work.
Martin emphasised the importance of a very light touch on the tools and maintaining a razor sharp edge on them. He demonstrated skills in creating varied light pulls, a wine coaster and a beautiful diamond shaped winged bowl.
There was something to interest everybody in his audience. Whilst some of Martin's techniques might be unusual, it was illuminating to see different ways to achieve an objective. It was a great evening for us all. check out the photos and videos taken during the evening.
What a great evenings inspirational demonstration. Chris laid on for us!
Chris uses the less decorative woods, such as Sycamore, as his 'canvas' and uses wood dyes, acrylics and texturing has his 'brushes'. The effects that he can obtain are quite astounding. he created a delightful bowl using black and red lacquers. Chris also demonstrated how spirit based stains can be used very effectively on more decorative woods.
if you want to see more of chris and his skills, log on to his website at Www.thebaldwoodturners.co.uk
Monday 12th December 2022 - Margaret GArrard
Many members will not be aware of copying lathes, let alone afford to buy one! Margaret introduced us to the therming technique which allows turners the ability to spindle turn identical pieces of work without needing a copying lathe. It involves creating the jig shown opposite and mounting four identically sized blanks as shown in the image opposite in the jig. After turning one face, each of the blanks are repositioned in the jig so that the remaining 3 blanks can be turned. The turner will then have 4 identical pieces of work ready to finish. This method is great for wheel spokes. little boxes, small vases, etc., the list is endless.

Monday 9th January 2023 - Home Grown Talent!
We started the New Year with a great evenings entertainment provided by our illustrious, indomitable, indescribable stalwarts Barrie Hunsley and John Churchill. We all know that woodturning is a craft where years of hard won experience and skills are always worth sharing. Barrie demonstrated how to spindle turn identical pieces of work - very useful if you are making table legs or wheel spokes.
John provided us with a great example of off centre turning. Many folks who are new to woodturning are apprehensive of trying this skill. John how to mount the wood in the chuck and then the angle and bevel contact required to produce the end result.
Check out the image galleries below.

Monday 13th February 2023 - Lillo Pisano
QIt was great to welcome Lillo into the Club for his first demonstration here. It's always good to welcome a new face at the lathe.
Lilo comes from Sardinia and has many talents other than woodturning. It is true to say that he is an exceptional artist who uses wood amongst many other forms of medium to produce some outstanding pieces.
Recently, Lillo was accepted into the prestigious company as a RPT.

Monday 7th may - Peter Thompson
It's always great to welcome a new face into the Club. We haven't hosted one of Peters demonstrations previously. Peter in his own words:Long before I begin a project, I study the wood to see what form is suggested. What results will not only expose the beautiful grain patterns on the outside, but also delve deep into the life of the tree as written in the years, decades or even centuries of growth rings, knots, and any checks, faults or damage that can be seen - from the very heart of the wood to its outer bark.
Peter gave us a demonstrations of the various tools he use to create a hollow form as well as demonstrating his skill in using them. It was a most enjoyable and enlightening evening.

Monday 14th August - Ian Clarkson
It was great to welcome Kate into the Club. She gave us a fantastic practical demo using odd pieces of wood and very few tools.
What Kate turned were great examples of some very marketable novelties. Its always nice to try some ideas, especially when you can make some money out of them
